VIOLA FESTIVAL- LIONEL TERTIS 125TH ANNIVERSARY (1876 -1975)
To mark the 125th anniversary of the birth of the distinguished alumnus and great viola player

Viola Masterclass given by Michael Kugel, the distinguished Russian born virtuoso violist.
Nov.1 11.00 am Concert Room
Introductory Lecture on Lionel Tertis given by John White, Professor of Viola, Royal Academy of Music.
1.05 pm Theatre
Lunchtime Concert
Three Haydn String Quartets played by RAM ensembles: given as a tribute to Lionel Tertis who in the 1927/28 academic year coached all the 83 Quartets by Haydn. These were performed in weekly concerts throughout the year by four Academy students.
2.30 pm Theatre

Bliss Sonata: Martin Outram (vla) Julian Rolton (pno)

Beethoven/Tertis: Trio op. 87 for 3 violas
York Bowen: Fantasie Quartet for 4 violas
B.J. Dale: Introduction and Andante op. 5 for 6 violas
Gordon Jacob: Suite for 8 violas Paul Silverthorne (vla) Yuko Inoue (vla) Martin Outram (vla) Garfield Jackson (vla) together with RAM students.
This concert will be hosted by the Friends of the RAM

Lecture: The Tertis Model Viola by the distinguished luthier, Wilfred Saunders.
